Zeke first ran for office on a belief that democracy only works when every person – in every community – has a voice in the process. During his time on the Council, Zeke has brought people across race, class and political ideology together to accomplish tangible results for City residents. His belief that “community comes first” was inspired by his mother’s stories of marching for civil rights and registering voters during the Mississippi Freedom Summer.
Zeke's Record
- Zeke helped secure $1.4m in community safety grants for 18 community nonprofits and neighborhood associations in Southeast Baltimore.
- Inspired by the belief that a city is only as strong as its vibrant neighborhoods, Zeke has prioritized the development and advancement of local leaders, offering continued professional development, workshops and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in other neighborhoods.
- Zeke brought together more than a dozen of Baltimore's cultural institutions to host “Field Trip Fridays” for nearly a thousand students without curricular options each Friday, connecting two of our City's greatest assets - its youth and cultural spaces.
Zeke's Vision
- Zeke will assemble a team of staff and community advisors to inform and support the delivery of more effective community services and resources.
- He will bring the Council’s work into the communities it represents, holding hearings in schools, recreation centers and other public spaces.
- As Council President, Zeke will make sure that the full weight of our City’s strengths - its industries, residents, nonprofits and arts institutions - are all a part of and invested in the conversation.
